On November 5, 2024, Florida voters rejected pro-abortion Amendment 4, which the abortion industry deceptively titled the “Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion.”
Had this proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution been approved by 60% or more of voters, it would have engrafted an explicit “right” to abortion (up until the moment of birth) in our state’s governing document. Our pro-life Legislature and Governor would then have been prohibited from making Florida totally abortion free, and all preexisting legislative prohibitions / regulations on abortion would have also become null and void.
Thankfully, the LORD blessed the hard work of many dedicated grassroots pro-life advocates, ensuring that Amendment 4 was DEFEATED! Thus, Florida became the very first state in the nation (and one of three overall) to vote down a proposed pro-abortion state constitutional amendment, since the overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022!
However, the pro-life movement’s margin of victory in Florida was very tight, with 57.2% of Florida voters casting a vote in favor of Amendment 4 and only 42.8% voting against this heinous proposal. In other words, there were 6,070,758 “yes” votes and 4,548,379 “no” votes. The saving grace was clearly the 60% voter threshold needed for passage.
As an authentic grassroots pro-life organization, Florida Voice for the Unborn was at the forefront of the opposition to Amendment 4, from the amendment’s earliest inception.
Given the small margin of victory over Amendment 4 at the polls, Florida Voice for the Unborn fully expects the abortion industry to make another attempt at changing our state Constitution to the detriment of our unborn brothers and sisters (and their mothers and fathers).
Therefore, this page will remain on our website for the foreseeable future as an archive of the successful strategies that Florida Voice for the Unborn employed to DEFEAT Amendment 4 during the 2023-2024 election cycle. These tactics included:
· The state’s first and foremost “Decline to Sign Campaign” (launched by Florida Voice for the Unborn in early July 2023). By Christmas 2023, our grassroots captains had ensured that close to 50,000 of our educational, double-sided “Decline to Sign Awareness Cards” had been circulated throughout the state, from Pensacola to the Keys.
· Monthly online non-denominational Christian prayer gatherings to ask for the LORD’s favor in our quest for VICTORY (August 2023 through November 2024). Members of the clergy made special appearances to lead us in prayer.
· A Grassroots Pro-Life Rally and Press Conference in front of the Florida Supreme Court that was attended by more than 100 pro-life advocates and co-sponsored by ten other pro-life organizations (on February 7, 2024, the morning the Court heard oral arguments on whether the pro-abortion proposal would be eliminated from the 2024 General Election ballot).
· Our statewide “Precinct-Level Vote NO on #4 Campaign,” which targeted registered Republican voters, within an assigned precinct, who had voted at least twice in a Florida General Election since 2016 (July 2024 – November 2024). Our precinct captains and other volunteers were provided with walk lists and, after President Trump officially said he was voting “NO” on Amendment 4, with unique literature communicating Trump’s opposition. Nearly 60,000 of our double-sided “Vote NO on #4” palm cards and door-hangers were distributed throughout Florida by Election Day 2024.
The strategies listed here were utilized as a result of ideas developed during Florida Voice for the Unborn’s First and Second Annual Dobbs Day Banquet & Workshop events held on June 24, 2023, and June 24, 2024, respectively.
